Novice – Learn to Curl Program

Novice-LTCP1

Navy provides beginners with two options: our regular full-season Novice Program, or a Thursday afternoon Adult Daytime Curling Program. Our qualified coaches will offer instruction in a fun, non-pressure environment.

We are accepting registrations for the 2017-2018 season!

Novice Program Overview —  SUNDAYS AT 1:30 PM

Each week, participants work on their form and receive instruction on curling rules, etiquette, and strategy. They then put these into practice in a game situation. The Novice Program consists of approximately 20 sessions, and these are typically held every Sunday afternoon from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The program runs from October to April.

Adult Learn-to-Curl Sessions —  THURSDAYS AT 1:30 PM

In addition to the popular Sunday afternoon sessions, the Navy Club offers a Daytime Adult curlers session on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. This program runs from October to December.

Coaching / instruction are provided by our club’s certified Curl Canada instructors. Additional experienced club members volunteer to assist the instructors and work with the novices. As the new curlers acquire knowledge and experience, they can also play in the club’s regular draw events at no additional charge; this will help them ease into the game and leagues at their own pace.

We offer a special, discounted membership rate for both these program, (see the New Member Application Form ).

For information on this program, please email the Program Coordinator at novice@navycurlingclub.com. You can also contact the Club Manager or telephone the club at 613-236-5103. Your request will be redirected to the Program Coordinator.

Testimonials from former students

I recently moved to Ottawa and decided to take up curling as my winter sport. Rather than attempt a “trial and error” approach as I have done in the past with skiing, I thought I would take advantage of an organized/instructional” approach to curling. I am convinced that this is the best way to learn this great sport. I have to say that I am so fortunate to have joined the Royal Canadian Navy (RNC) curling club and their great novice league!

It has been a fantastic year in so many ways. I have learned various aspects of the sport and have progressed nicely in the skill of the game primarily because of the instructors who are so knowledgeable, patient and have a great sense of humor. The club atmosphere is very welcoming/inclusive(both on and off the ice). The relaxed atmosphere at RCN makes it so ways to meet new people and make new friends. I’m sure it must be the friendliest club in Ottawa!

Great way to learn a new sport and meet new people.

Everyone at the Navy Club was so welcoming.

The instructors were great. Not only did they teach the basics of curling but they made sure we had fun and felt welcomed at the Club.

Got to love a sport that places so much emphasis on having fun!

I loved the Navy Club – friendly people, great ice, lots of fun!
